NICCI Excellence Awards

Since 1998, through the establishment of NICCI Excellence Awards, NICCI has been awarding its member organizations to inspire them for gradual development in productivity, import substitution/export promotion, employment generation, investment, environment protection and socialization.

For this purpose, the Executive Committee of NICCI forms NICCI Excellence Awards Committee under the convenorship of one of the Executive Committee Members and other members on recommendation of the Convener. The committee forms a tribunal of experts from various organizations, associations, institutions who are not directly related with NICCI. The Committee, in consultation with the Tribunal, sets the criteria and questionnaires for the NICCI Excellence Awards and Committee circulates the questionnaires to all the concerned members of NICCI granting them sufficient time for completing the questionnaires. Since the questionnaire is mainly based on economic parameters of the company (though there are some social parameters also); the participants for the NICCI Excellence Awards must submit the duly audited and signed financial statements (Balance Sheet & Final Accounts) for the last 3 consecutive fiscal years (to ascertain gradual improvement and/or deterioration in financial indicators) along with the response to the questionnaire to support and verify their claims. The responses to the questionnaires received within stipulated time by the NICCI Excellence Awards Committee are handed over to the Tribunal. In the first round of evaluation, the Tribunal sorts out the responses to the questionnaires, checks whether they are duly completed or not. The responses not supported by Financial Statements are disqualified for the next round of evaluation. After first round of evaluation, the Tribunal hands over the remaining responses to the Chartered Accountants for financial analysis. After receiving comparative financial analysis of all the participants for the last 3 consecutive financial years from the Chartered Accountants, the meetings of the Tribunal decides the winners of the NICCI Excellence Awards and submits confidential reports about the same to the NICCI Excellence Awards Committee. The committee reviews the reports and submits its confidential reports with recommendations to the Executive Committee for final decision. The Executive Committee held around 1 week before of the AGM to review the AGM preparation, finalizes the NICCI Excellence Awards for the year specified.

The Tribunal bases its decision on evaluation of the major criteria such as Indicators of Returns on Investment, Turnover and increase in it, Employment, Investment, Contribution to the National Exchequer, Investment for Human Resources and its Development, Corporate Governance, Contribution to Society with respect to Service Sector. Additional criteria such as Capacity utilization, Value Addition in Production, Correlation of investment with Employment, Exports, Expenditure on R & D, Debt to Equity Ratio, and other Socio-Economic aspects are also evaluated for Industry Sector firms are categorized into Large, Medium and Small on the basis of the definition of Industrial Enterprise Act of Nepal. Similarly, non-manufacturing sector firms are grouped under Service Sector and Financial Sectors.


NICCI Excellence Awards 1998


In the first year of NICCI Excellence Award in 1998, there was only one Award. The award was conferred to DABUR NEPAL PVT. LTD. in the inaugural ceremony of the 4th Annual General Meeting of NICCI on 28th October 1998 at Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza, Kathmandu.
