No new Bajaj scooters from the end of 2009-10 fiscal

New Delhi: Bajaj Auto has decided to put a stop on the production of its legendary Bajaj scooters. Instead, it will aim fully on its motorcycle market. Rajiv Bajaj, the Managing Director of Bajaj Auto confirmed that by the end of the 2009-10 fiscal, the two-wheeler saga will leave the scooter segment. As per Rajiv Bajaj, the company is forced to take such a decision since the demand for scooters has diminished over the recent years. As per him, concentrating on the motorcycle segment will be much more beneficial to the company because of the overwhelming demand from customers. Very soon Bajaj Auto will also be launching a brand new version of a motorcycle under its celebrated brand 'Pulsar'- the 135 LS model. Presently, the company produces nearly 3 million motorcycles every year in comparison to its yearly production of only 12,000 scooters, a majority of which is exported. The sale of scooters doesn?t meet the marketing target of the company like that of the motorcycles. Currently, the 100-cc gearless Crystal is the only scooter manufactured by the company.
