NICCI, GCCI join hands to promote cross border investment, economic engagement

KATHMANDU/PANAJI: Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICC) and Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote mutual trade, cross-border investments, and economic engagements between Indian state of Goa and Nepal.

NICCI president Sunil KC, after signing the MoU, said that the purpose of the MoU is to strengthen cooperation between NICCI and GCCI in the fields of trade, investment, industry, and tourism by promoting mutual understanding, exchange of information, and business linkages.

The MoU signed on Friday by NICCI president Sunil KC and GCCI president Pratima Dhond is expected to help exchange non-confidential information on economic trends, investment climates, government policies, sectoral opportunities, and market intelligence between the two chambers, according to a press release issued by NICCI.

The MOU will also facilitate business delegations in both directions and support B2B meetings, trade fairs, exhibitions, and business summits, informed NICCI president KC.

Since Goa is a state in western India with coastlines stretching along the Arabian Sea, and famous for tourism, the MOU is also expected to promote cultural, religious, adventure, and spiritual tourism by leveraging Nepal’s Himalayan attractions and Goa’s coastal and heritage tourism appeal.

It will help assist and guide entrepreneurs from both regions in exploring partnerships, investment projects, and technology transfer opportunities, said GCCI president Dhond, after signing the MoU.

The MoU also stresses on joint thematic forums, conferences, seminars, or roundtables on mutually relevant issues, at least once a year, Institutional Dialogue to maintain regular contact and dialogue between the Parties to support advocacy efforts and policy dialogues beneficial to the business community, and Publications and Research Exchange

It will also help both the chambers to collaborate in technology transfer, consulting, and exchange of best practices related to industrial and economic development, KC said, adding that a Joint Working Group (JWG) will be formed to facilitate the joint initiatives. “The JWG or a Committee will to monitor implementation and propose new collaborative initiatives.”

Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce & Industry (NICCI), established in 1993 and based in Kathmandu, is a bi-national, non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting bilateral economic relations between Nepal and India. NICCI plays a significant role in facilitating trade, investment, tourism, and industry cooperation.

Likewise, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), founded in 1908, is one of India’s oldest and most respected regional business chambers, headquartered in Panaji, Goa. It represents a vibrant economic landscape with strengths in tourism, pharmaceuticals, agro-processing, shipping, and mining. GCCI is committed to promoting Goa as a dynamic hub for investment and tourism, enriched by its coastal charm, heritage sites, and cultural diversity.

Goa’s long history as a Portuguese colony prior to 1961 is evident in its preserved 17th-century churches and the area’s tropical spice plantations. Goa is also known for its beaches, ranging from popular stretches at Baga and Palolem to those in laid-back fishing villages such as Agonda.

काठमाडौं, पनजी – नेपाल–भारत वाणिज्य तथा उद्योग महासंघ (निक्की) र गोवा वाणिज्य तथा उद्योग महासंघ (जीसीसीआई) बीच भारतको गोवा राज्य र नेपालबीच आपसी व्यापार, सीमा पार लगानी र आर्थिक सहकार्य प्रवर्द्धन गर्ने उद्देश्यले समझदारीपत्रमा हस्ताक्षर भएको छ।

निक्कीका अध्यक्ष सुनील केसीले समझदारीपत्रमा हस्ताक्षर गरेपछि बोल्दै समझदारीको उद्देश्य व्यापार, लगानी, उद्योग र पर्यटनका क्षेत्रमा निक्की र गोवा चेम्बरबीचआपसी समझदारी, जानकारी आदानप्रदान र व्यवसायिक सम्पर्क विस्तार गरी सहकार्य सुदृढ गर्नु रहेको बताए।

शुक्रवार निक्की अध्यक्ष केसी र गोवा चेम्बर अध्यक्ष प्रतिमा धोण्डद्वारा हस्ताक्षर गरिएको सहमतिपत्रअनुसार, दुई संघबीच आर्थिक प्रवृत्ति, लगानी परिवेश, सरकारी नीति, क्षेत्रीय अवसरहरू र विविध जानकारीहरू आदानप्रदान गर्न यस सहकार्यले सहयोग पुग्ने विश्वास गरिएको छ।

साथै, दुईतर्फी व्यापारिक प्रतिनिधिमण्डलको आदानप्रदान, संयुक्त बैठकहरू, व्यापार मेला, प्रदर्शनी र व्यापार सम्मेलनहरू आयोजना गर्न समेत सहयोग पुर्‍याउने निक्कीका अध्यक्ष केसीले जानकारी दिए।

भारतको पश्चिमी तटीय राज्य गोवा अरबी समुद्रसँग जोडिएको छ र पर्यटनका लागि प्रसिद्ध छ। त्यसैले गोवा चेम्बरसँगको सहकार्यले नेपालको हिमाली आकर्षण र गोवाको तटीय र सांस्कृतिक सम्पदालाई प्रयोग गरी धार्मिक, सांस्कृतिक, साहसिक र अध्यात्मिक पर्यटन प्रवर्द्धन गर्ने अपेक्षा गरिएको छ।

गोवा चेम्बरकी अध्यक्ष धोण्डले यस समझदारीले दुवै क्षेत्रका उद्यमीहरूलाई साझेदारी, लगानी परियोजना र प्रविधि स्थानान्तरणमा सम्भावनाहरू खोज्न सहयोग गर्ने बताइन।

यस सहकार्यले आपसी चासोका विषयमा हरेक वर्ष कम्तीमा एक पटक संयुक्त विषयगत फोरम, सम्मेलन, गोष्ठी वा गोलमेच कार्यक्रम आयोजना गर्ने, संस्थागत संवादमार्फत दुवै महासंघबीच नियमित सम्पर्क कायम राख्ने, व्यापारिक समुदायका हितका लागि पैरवी तथा नीतिगत संवादलाई सहयोग गर्ने, साथै प्रकाशन र अनुसन्धान आदानप्रदानलाई जोड दिएको छ।

निक्कीका अध्यक्ष केसीका अनुसार यस समझदारीले औद्योगिक तथा आर्थिक विकाससँग सम्बन्धित प्रविधि स्थानान्तरण, परामर्श र उत्तम अभ्यास आदानप्रदानमा समेत मद्दत पुर्‍याउनेछ। यसका लागि संयुक्त कार्यदल वा समिति गठन गरिने र उक्त कार्यदलले संयुक्त पहलहरूको कार्यान्वयनको अनुगमन गर्ने तथा नयाँ सहकार्य प्रस्ताव गर्नेछ।

नेपाल–भारत वाणिज्य तथा उद्योग महासंघ (निक्की) सन् १९९३ मा काठमाडौंमा स्थापना भएको द्विपक्षीय, गैर(सरकारी, गैर नाफामूलक संस्था हो, जसको उद्देश्य नेपाल र भारतबीचको द्विपक्षीय आर्थिक सम्बन्ध प्रवर्द्धन गर्नु हो। निक्कीले व्यापार, लगानी, पर्यटन र उद्योग सहकार्यलाई सहज बनाउन महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका खेल्दै आएको छ।

त्यसैगरी, गोवा चेम्बर सन् १९०८ मा स्थापना भएको भारतकै पुराना र प्रतिष्ठित क्षेत्रीय व्यवसायिक संघमध्ये एक हो। पर्यटन, औषधि उद्योग, कृषि प्रशोधन, ढुवानी र खानी उद्योगमा विशेष प्रभाव भएको गोवा राज्यलाई लगानी र पर्यटनको गतिशील केन्द्रको रूपमा प्रवर्द्धन गर्न गोवा चेम्बर प्रतिबद्ध छ।

गोवा सन् १९६१ सम्म पोर्चुगलको उपनिवेश रहेकाले यहाँका १७औं शताब्दीका चर्चहरू र मसला खेतीहरू अझै पनि संरक्षित छन्। गोवा आफ्ना प्रसिद्ध समुद्री किनारहरू तथा बागा, पालोलेम, र अगोंडाका जस्ता माछा मार्ने गाउँहरूका लागि पनि प्रख्यात छ।
