Pioneering Leadership and Milestones
NICCI’s journey began under the leadership of Late Mr. Prabhakar SJB Rana, its Founding President, who also had played instrumental role in facilitating key bilateral agreements, including the historic Trade and Transit Treaties of 1996 and 1999, which significantly enhanced Nepal’s trade facilitation with India. Additionally, the enthusiasm played a vital role in the formulation of agreements in power trade, aviation, and economic cooperation, paving the way for deeper integration between the two economies.
A Legacy of Commitment and Progress
Over the last 30 years, NICCI’s leaders have collectively shaped policies, encouraged investment, and built a strong foundation for sustainable economic partnerships between the two neighboring nations. Building on the legacy, Late Mr. Rukma Shumsher Rana, Mr. Arun Kumar Chaudhary, Mr. Sanjiv Keshava, Mr. Sashi Raj Pandey, Late Mr. Saurya SJB Rana, and Mrs. Shreejana Rana, each successive President of NICCI has contributed to strengthening Nepal-India economic ties. Their collective efforts have fostered cross-border trade, enhanced private-sector engagement, improved trade logistics, and promoted economic diplomacy. They have played pivotal roles in policy advocacy, advocacy for infrastructure development, industrial modernization, trade and investment facilitation, adding successive bricks to NICCI’s foundation, making NICCI a key player in bilateral economic relations.
Background:
Mr. Prabhakar SJB Rana was a visionary leader, entrepreneur, and trailblazer in Nepal’s business and hospitality sectors. As the Founding President of the Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce & Industry (NICCI), Chairman Emeritus of the Soaltee Conglomerate, and also the founder of several other organizations, Mr. Rana’s contributions were transformative and far-reaching. His influence spanned diplomacy, tourism, hydropower, and industry, leaving a lasting impact on Nepal’s socio-economic development. This memorial talk aims to honor his life, achievements, and enduring legacy. This lecture series will be held every two years.
Objective:
The objective of the program is
· To commemorate late Mr. Prabhakar SJB Rana’s pioneering contributions to Nepal’s business and economic landscape including promotion of sectors tourism, joint ventures, hydropower, and manufacturing as well as establishment of several other organizations including Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce & Industry (NICCI) in his visionary leadership,
· To discuss Nepal-India bilateral trade, investment, tourism, socio-economic and cultural relations, and energy cooperation, aiming to enhance future prospects within BBIN and BIMSTEC nations.
